FOTONNA Newsletter Sept 2026
Update from Daoud Nassar
Dear Friends of Tent of Nations,
I want to thank you all for standing with us during these challenging times and for keeping us in your prayers. Your solidarity, friendship, and support remind us that we are not alone on this difficult and long journey for justice. Your encouragement gives us strength and courage to continue.
The situation in the West Bank continues to escalate, with increasing settler attacks on Palestinian villagers and farmers. Many families are losing access to their land and facing growing pressure to leave the places they have called home for generations. What is perhaps most frustrating is the lack of meaningful action from the international community to stop these injustices. Too often, the suffering of people is acknowledged, but not enough is done to protect them or to hold those responsible accountable.
Around our farm, we continue to witness the expansion of settlements and the creation of new facts on the ground. The new outpost established a few months ago, directly beside our fence, continues to expand, bringing more pressure, uncertainty, isolation, and fear to the Tent of Nations. Today, there are four gates between the farm and Bethlehem, making movement increasingly difficult and limiting our connection with surrounding communities.
For decades, we have sought to protect our land through legal and peaceful means. For thirty-five years, we have been engaged in a legal struggle, believing that justice should be available to everyone. I would say that we have exhausted every possible legal avenue. It is painful to admit that, after all these years, justice still seems far from us.
We have not yet received any response from the military authorities regarding the re-registration of our farm. Concerning the roads that were built illegally on our private land, a court session is scheduled for November 11 in the military court.
At the Tent of Nations, we continue to work with our hearts and our hands. We believe that working the land is an act of hope and resistance. We continue to water and care for the newly-planted trees, nurturing life even in the most difficult circumstances. We continue to develop the infrastructure of the farm and work towards self-sufficiency. Every field we cultivate, every stone we place, and every tree we plant is a declaration that we refuse to give up.
We are blessed by the presence of international volunteers who come to the Tent of Nations to offer both practical help and a protective presence. During the month of August alone, we welcomed 41 international volunteers from six different countries, including the United States. Their willingness to stand with us sends a powerful message that solidarity is not just a word, it is something we live and practice together.
We ask the churches and faith communities around the world not only to pray for justice and peace, but to act for justice. Prayers must lead us to accept responsibility and to take actions. The story of the Good Samaritan reminds us that faith cannot be expressed fully by words or prayers. The Samaritan did not simply see the wounded man, offer a prayer, and continue on his way. He allowed compassion to move him to action. He responded to the suffering and became a neighbor to someone in need.
This is the kind of faith that gives us the courage to speak when others are silent. We call churches to raise their prophetic voices, to stand with those who are suffering, and to challenge the structures and policies that allow injustice to continue.
As our journey for justice becomes increasingly difficult, our call is to remain committed to our path of nonviolent resistance. This is not always an easy choice, we need prayers, encouragement, active and costly solidarity from our friends.
You can help protect the Tent of Nations by writing to your elected representatives, asking them to take meaningful action. You can share our story of steadfastness and hope with your communities and churches. And, if you are able, you can come and volunteer at the farm.
Your presence, your voice, and every step you take can make a difference, and a step toward change. Thank you for your friendship, solidarity, and support. Together, we can make a difference.
With faith, love, and hope,
Daoud Nassar

A Message from the FOTONNA Board of Directors
Let us Keep Knocking at the Door
By Beth Moore and Kyle Cristofalo
In the midst of intensified violence across the West Bank and deep concern about what is happening around Tent of Nations, we are writing to ask for your advocacy assistance. Please raise the Nassar family’s 20-year long legal struggle for a decision on the re-registration of their land with your members of Congress. We know that Congressional intervention has played an important role in ensuring Daoud and his family remain on the farm. But, as the situation in the West Bank continues to deteriorate, we need to keep pressure on Congress.
As Daoud has shared, the farm is being surrounded on all sides by road closures, gates, and outpost expansion, making it more and more difficult to access and work on the farm. Unannounced visits to the farm by the military and settlers, while not outwardly violent, create an atmosphere of intimidation and threat. There has been no communication to the Nassars from the Civil Administration’s Re-registration Committee since final documents were supplied by the Nassars in May of 2025. As long as the land is not registered, it is considered State Land or may be moved into a category now being called “disputed land”; as has recently occurred in the village of Umm Al-Khair in the south Hebron Hills, giving settlers permission to destroy and confiscate property.
Since Daoud began sharing the story of Tent of Nations in the United States in 2008 the number of organizations and individuals working on the cause of Palestinian liberation has increased exponentially. There is heightened awareness across the U.S. of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, as well as efforts by the Israeli settlers and military to erase and fragment entire Palestinian communities, while annexing swaths of the West Bank. It is important to keep knocking on doors to let our voices be heard. As members spend time back in their states and districts, it is critical they hear from constituents who are concerned about the rising violence and settlement expansion in the West Bank. The Tent of Nations and the Nassar land case is a concrete issue you can raise directly with your elected representatives.
The re-registration of the Nassars’ land remains a preeminent issue and we are asking you to write, call, or meet with your congressional representatives during the October recess. Ask them to contact State Department Officials to request answers on the status of Re-registration cases 3714/2 and 3715/2.

If you are able to take action— by calling, emailing, or visiting their offices, — please let us know by emailing info@fotonna.org. This will help us ensure we can continue engagement with these Congressional offices as we work toward a successful resolution of this case.
If you want to act but don’t know where to start, we recommend calling the Washington,
DC office of your member of Congress. (You can be connected to their office by calling the Capitol Switchboard (202) 224-3121).
Thank you for lifting your voices and continuing to walk this road with us.

Volunteer Appeal: Come and See, Go and Tell
One of the most important ways we can support Tent of Nations is by volunteering at the farm. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a frequent guest, volunteering at Tent of Nations is an invaluable experience. Not only will your presence help keep the farm safe, but you will gain a better understanding of the practices of nonviolence that Tent of Nations employs—practices that you are invited to take home with you and apply in your own community.
Currently, volunteers are most greatly needed during the Fall olive harvest season and the Spring. Tent of Nations encourages pairs and small groups in particular. If you are interested in volunteering but do not belong to a group, FOTONNA can help connect you to other volunteers. Scroll to the bottom of this page at https://tentofnations.com/programs-projects/ and fill out and submit the “Volunteer application form” form you’ll find there. Questions can be directed to: info@fotonna.org.
Tree Planting Funding Appeal
Please consider a generous donation to provide new trees as well as the labor, farm equipment, and resources (think water) needed for tree planting on the Tent of Nations Farm.
New young trees are purchased locally and international volunteers provide the labor to help Daoud and Daher plant the trees. Over the coming 2 years those trees will need TLC to be hand-watered, cultivated and fertilized, until their roots are deep enough to thrive on their own. Every step of this process carries a cost.
- $30 provides one young tree: olives, grapes, lemons, almonds, and carob trees will all be planted. Consider providing a few, or even a row of trees!
- $50 makes sure water and fuel are available when needed
- $100 supports the labor needed to care for young trees
- $400 or more provides tools and equipment maintenance, and other help as needed.
Donations can be made by secure online options, or you’re welcome to give by check (see directions below for giving by check).
